Welcome to the pack

Posted on March 5, 2013 by Rebecca Parish

As the latest graduate addition to the team, I'm soon to complete my six-month internship and become a permanent member of the team; and now seems a perfect opportunity for me to step back and reflect on my time so far at B2B PR consultancy, Man Bites Dog.

Leader of the pack

I was straight out of university and remember all too clearly the scramble to have a CV strong enough to get that first 'proper' job. In today's competitive job market, graduates are constantly reminded that they must be exceptional in order to be noticed. They must work tirelessly to try and differentiate themselves from their contemporaries.

But for me, an equally daunting challenge was finding a company that really shone. I wanted to find somewhere I would feel proud to work, with like-minded people, on challenging, interesting clients.

Man Bites Dog certainly stood out from the crowd and I knew I was on to something special.

Different breeds

After spending years with my head deeply engrossed in the politics of Eastern Europe, PR was a world away from my comfort zone.

But, whatever your background, if you have a passion for writing and world events, you might find that PR is for you. Indeed, at Man Bites Dog people come from all walks of life, and that breadth of experience makes the company a vibrant place to work.

Pack mentality

I can truly say that, from day one, I felt part of this experienced team. At Man Bites Dog, not only do you have the opportunity to work with some of the brightest people in PR, but colleagues are also keen to share their expertise with you.

Graduate life here in the 'Doghouse' is truly varied and no two days are ever the same. A rewarding and vibrant place to be, the scheme has given me invaluable hands-on experience of the opportunities that the world of PR offers.

Training cats and dogs

As a high growth and ambitious company, Man Bites Dog offers fantastic opportunities for significant personal development with an extensive training programme. Even in the short time I have been with the company, I've been lucky enough to work on global projects for some of the world's most renowned business brands, speaking to clients and journalists across the world.

The graduate scheme at Man Bites Dog really does offer an opportunity to make a mark in this successful, growing entrepreneurial agency. With the company aiming to promote internally, there are plenty of exciting opportunities to begin building your dream career.

But it's not all work and no play

I have been seriously impressed with Man Bites Dog's commitment to maintaining a fun and achievement driven culture. With regular social evenings - such as weekly cocktail-making competitions, fish and chips evenings, and even the odd spot of karaoke - there are plenty of opportunities for us to get to know each other outside of the office.

Oh, and not forgetting my second week with the team, when we all packed our bags and set off for a weekend trip to Budapest!

Brighton beckons

Having studied in the hectic environment that is London, I was excited by the opportunity to enjoy all the things that Brighton has to offer. The town hasn't disappointed. Priding itself on offering a 'London career with a Brighton lifestyle', Man Bites Dog offers an almost unique package.

In brand new offices, just a stick's throw from the beach and in the heart of the lanes, it's been a fantastic base from which to explore. And with spring drawing ever nearer, I'm looking forward to enjoying the town and surrounding countryside even more.
